Giving back to one’s community is a valued principle at Martin Marietta. For Carolina South District Sales Manager Brandon Lindsey, giving back to the community led to the creation of Dream On 3, a nonprofit that supports children with chronic illnesses, developmental disabilities and life-altering conditions.
Founded in 2012, Dream On 3 creates partnerships with area hospitals in Charlotte, North Carolina, as well as various athletes and athletic organizations, to help make dreams come true.
Brandon and his wife, Elizabeth, started the organization as a way to give back to their community. With some connections in the sports world, they had what Brandon calls a “Jerry Maguire moment,” in which the decision was made to make Dream On 3 official.
“We’ve been blessed, so we wanted to be able to give back and show our kids that we have a greater responsibility to share what we’ve been given,” he said.
After working directly with hospital social workers and treating physicians to identify patients, the Dream On 3 staff and volunteers create personal experiences for qualified children with their favorite athletes or sports teams.
A recent “Dream Experience” involved an 11-year-old boy who lives with chronic severe asthma.
On Feb. 3, 2014, he was surprised with a trip to Miami, Florida, where he was led on a private tour through the American Airlines Arena, home of the Miami Heat. He received VIP treatment, was introduced to several Miami Heat players and watched from lower-level seats as the team pulled out a victory over the Detroit Pistons.
Dream On 3 is certainly a dream come true for the children it supports and Brandon credits his career at Martin Marietta as being a vital part of his support system.
“I feel very fortunate to work for a company that allows me to pursue a career that I absolutely love, and at the same time, to be able to focus on my family and serving the community through an organization like Dream On 3.
"That is part of the amazing culture at Martin Marietta and it means more than I can say.”
