Alden District Employees Lead the Way to Safety Milestone
In October 2005, the Alden District, with operations in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin, recorded its millionth man-hour without a lost-time injury. That's 26 months of safe operation for a district with portable plants, underground mines and open-pit quarries.
The district's 207 employees deserve the credit for the million-hour milestone. The accomplishment was only possible with the employees' ownership of the district's emphasis on safety. Safety initiatives in the district include safety observations and audits, new
protective equipment, daily safety meetings at each location and monthly meetings of a district-wide Safety Steering Committee.
