Martin Marietta uses state-of-the-art explosives and blasting technology to initiate the first step in producing crushed stone with a unique in-house approach which focuses on safety, the environment and efficiency. A selected blast site in the pit area is drilled to create multiple bore holes and then filled with explosive material. The blast fragments the rock into sizes small enough to load and haul to the primary crusher.	Each bore hole is remotely detonated to produce a well-controlled blast.
