The Harrell Sand and Gravel Plant in Harrell, Arkansas is another example of Martin Marietta’s continuing commitment to the environment. This reclamation project is one of the largest in the history of the Company. The project took 2 years to complete and encompasses over 800 acres of a former aggregates operation. The processing equipment was removed and the landscape prepared for future generations to enjoy. Deer tracks can be seen and natural grasses have taken hold as nature embraces the land.
This project was nominated for the prestigious Interstate Mining Compact Commissions Annual National Mine Reclamation Award and earned Honorable Mention from the committee.
"It always gives you a very good feeling to be able turn what was left after an operation is closed into something like this. It’s very pretty, you can see the tracks where the deer have been and you know nature has taken hold to of what we are leaving."
- Randy Wilkinson, Production Services Manager, Arkansas District
